Why is it if you dislike the Beatles people act like you "don\’t understand music" or you\’re "corrupted"…?

I told a friend I didn’t care for them and he acted like I insulted him personally. And when I told him that I grew up listening to Tina Turner, Ray Charles, Jimi Hendrix, and others he said, “I never liked them.” ??

The point is, I don’t get the hype about the Beatles. I understand that they’re influential and all that and they were considered so unique in their time but I find their music boring and overrated. Why is it some people act like you’re musically retarded or somethng if you don’t like their music…

Oh, and don’t get me started if I say I like metal.
